CedarShake

Cedar shake roofing comes from a natural product that has been made from old growth red cedar. At PJ’s Roofing, we use premium grade, 100% vertical grain cedar shake bundles.  The cedar shake can be made with a special treatment that can help prolong its life. Cedar shake can also be treated with a fire retardant option. The shakes are usually milled in lengths of 24 inches with varying widths from 4 inches up to just over 12 inches.

The typical thickness of a cedar shake varies as well. A heavy butt will come in around 3/4 of an inch while a medium butt will come in around 1/2 an inch. The shakes are installed by weaving them into an asphalt-saturated underlayment in 10 inch exposed courses. Depending on the thickness, a cedar shake roof can have an average lifespan of 18 to 25 years. A cedar shake roof can bring a contemporary look of the Pacific Northwest to your Frederick, MD home, adding a unique beauty to its look.
